Ketu Patel, Nurse Practitioner

In her role, Ketu is responsible for the medical management of all post-lung transplant patients in the inpatient setting. She works with a diverse and highly skilled interdisciplinary team consisting of transplant respirologists, clinical pharmacists, nurse clinicians, nurses, allied health staff and leadership team members.

“Our team provides care for patients with a multitude of medical complexities from various types of allograft rejection and infections, to patients with a wide range of post-transplant complications, which makes my role as a NP diverse and dynamic,” she says. “As the NP, I have the opportunity to establish relationships with patients and their families to provide the specialized care they need.”

In fact, Ketu’s favourite part of her role is the interpersonal relationships she has developed. “It gets really busy, so we encourage, support and collaborate with one another…I enjoy working in a spirited and challenging environment where individuals are committed to help one another and make positive impacts on health and wellbeing.”

“I was motivated to apply because I was specifically looking for a team that encouraged collaboration and provided ongoing mentorship.” Initially, Ketu felt nervous about starting such a complex role as a new NP, but with the support she received from her team and the guidance from other specialized NPs at VGH, she was able to gain confidence.

Outside of work, Ketu is heavily involved in her community, where she enjoys organizing cultural events and performing dance.
