Marta Horvath, Medical Device Reprocessing Technician

Marta Horvath

Concluding our highlight of Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (MDRTs) this week, we are pleased to introduce you to Marta Horvath, an MDRT and Perioperative Aide at both Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) and Squamish General Hospital (SGH).

“I enjoy that every day is a different environment and to be able to play a vital role in providing exceptional health care services to my community,” she says. “Both my roles are critical in the daily preparation of surgical procedures and I really enjoy the fast-paced work environment and working alongside other health care professionals providing essential and exceptional patient care.”

Something that excites Marta is the fact that the MDR Department is constantly updating to new and innovative instruments. “This elevates my motivation to come to work and learn new things”, says Marta. She recalls another inspirational moment at SGH when she noticed a minor laparotomy set write-up needed to be updated and her coordinator jumped in right away to make the changes with new imagery and updated copy so there was no delay.

So how does Marta incorporate VCH values (We Care for Everyone, We Are Always Learning and We Strive for Better Results) in her role? “As an MDRT, I get the opportunity to expand my career and skills set as a perioperative aide,” she says. “Because of this, I have two jobs that I love!”

Marta did a short stint in beautiful Bella Bella back in 2018 and 2019 and helped out in the MDR Department. “This was an interesting experience for me and I was set up in a nice suite in R.W. Large Memorial Hospital.”
