Staff Spotlight
Nathaniel Lim, Clinical Project Manager
“What I enjoy most about my role are those moments where project stakeholders know that I clearly understand their needs and trust is formed for us to work and find solutions together,” says Nathaniel, Clinical Project Manager for the Capital Projects Team.
In his role, he ensures that the clinical needs for a new or renovated space is clearly understood, articulated and implemented. The scope of clinical needs ranges from determining the type, size, cost, and optimum workflows of programs, as well as the space and support services requirements, equipment, and furniture.
Nathaniel has a unique professional background including experience in social work, business, and engineering that suited the requirements of the role quite well and has allowed him to utilize his strong skill set. “This role has given me the opportunity, in a very short time frame, to learn not just the breadth of all Vancouver Community programs but about the depth and intricacies of programs in each site.”
Long term capital project planning is influenced by many factors and at times those factors fall outside the realm of healthcare. “It is exciting to see how big-ticket issues that get front-page attention such as the opioid crisis, the housing crisis, and transportation referendum get directly influenced or addressed by the projects we take on.”
Nathaniel feels supported in his role and says, “The team I work with freely bounce ideas and share learnings with each other all the time. I even get access to a coach that helps me optimize my leadership capacity.”
