Staff Spotlight
Savi Batth, Community Health Nurse
We met with Savi Batth, a RHHEP graduate who is now working as a Community Health Nurse at the Pacific Spirit Community Health Centre.
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) offers a 100% employer-paid training program to support the education of registered nurses new to Home Health through the Regional Home Health Education Program (RHHEP).
Savi works within the ambulatory clinic and provides nursing care and support for a variety of clients requiring different services, including palliative clients and post-surgical clients. He also works in the community providing care to homebound clients living with various illnesses and disabilities.
“The Community Health Nurse role is diverse, which means that we need a wide knowledge base. RHHEP is a great way to learn the foundations of community care,” says Savi. “This program helped me transition my thinking from acute care to community care, with a focus on prevention which decreases hospitalization and length of stay. I found working day shifts to be a benefit for work-life balance and this was one of my motivations to apply for this role.”
In addition to working day shifts, Savi enjoys providing client care in a community setting, helping patients recover, supporting families and clients fulfill their end of life goals, as well as working autonomously within a supportive team.
“Over the years, we have established a great working team that consists of dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, case managers and palliative physicians. We work with our strengths to provide the best possible care for our clients.”
Speaking further to the team culture, Savi tells us they have many team-building activities and events such as pumpkin carving contests, annual holiday parties and more.
To end his spotlight, Savi leaves us with a fun fact: the Pacific Community Health Centre is the first community health centre to open in B.C.
