Trans Specialty Care offers knowledgeable and specialized care to transgender and gender-diverse persons living in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. We offer hormone initiation and stabilization, surgical referrals, and post-operative nursing care. We also are a consultation service and work with your primary care provider if you have one.

How to access

  • Check eligibility

Services are provided to people 15 and older living in the Vancouver Coastal Health region. Youth (15-18 years), refugee claimants, and individuals with post-operative complications who live outside the VCH Region will be given special consideration on a case-by-case basis.

Clients must have valid health insurance (either through MSP or through another Canadian Province) or be covered under interim Federal Health Insurance (e.g. refugee claimants, protected persons) to access treatment if they do not have medical health insurance, as you may be responsible for out-of-pocket costs such as labs/blood work.

If you have questions regarding program eligibility, please email transcareintake@vch.ca. If you live outside of the VCH region, please contact Transcare BC's Care Coordination team for help finding care in your area.

  • Self-referrals

You can self refer by calling our TSC intake clerk at (604) 331-8901 or through our online referral form.

  • Through your family doctor/nurse practitioner

Your primary care clinician can also fax a referral to (604) 844-2223. The intake clerk will contact you to follow up and confirm your waitlist placement within 1-2 business days. Please let your physician know the best way for us to contact you.
