Garratt Wellness Centre

To promote independence and to empower people to improve or maintain health status through increased awareness of, and access to, health promotion services.

Garratt Wellness Centre offers a number of programs from community and health partners. The centre is advised by a steering group with representation from the local community, health and service partners.

The health professionals on our team represent a wide variety of disciplines in order to assist you with your chronic care needs.

Our facility served our neighborhood from 1959 until 2003 as B.W. Garratt Elementary School named for B. William Garratt who served as a Richmond Councillor in 1889, 1890 and 1896. After neighborhood consultation, the building was leased to Vancouver Coastal Health - Public Health and the Garratt Wellness Centre was created. It received startup funding from the Primary Health Care Transition Fund.

In September 2004, the centre opened as a community health partnership between the City of Richmond and Vancouver Coastal Health - Public Health. Other community partners were invited to join to help carry out the goal of helping people learn and develop knowledge and skills to self-manage  chronic conditions such as diabetes or heart disease.

The centre officially opened April 1, 2006 and continues to expand to provide specialized programs and resources to help Richmond residents. Its goal remains to promote independence and empower people  to improve or maintain  health status through increased knowledge and awareness of and access to health promotion services.
