Our care team is the first point-of-contact for ongoing, personalized care close to where you live. We deliver comprehensive and accessible care that prioritizes prevention, wellness and the treatment of common health issues.
Our care team is here for you and your family
Our team helps patients feel their best—physically, mentally and emotionally—at every age and stage in life and for most health-care needs.
- Family Doctor or Nurse Practitioner: Is the main person patients can talk to about their health and coordinates their care with other health providers at the family health clinic and in their community.
- Medical Office Assistant: Helps make sure the clinic operates smoothly including scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, managing correspondence and assisting with billing and insurance processes.
- Registered Nurse: Collaborates with the family doctor or nurse practitioner to provide essential care and support including monitoring patients' health, administering medications and educating patients about treatment plans.
- Social Worker: Assists patients with the emotional and social aspects of health by providing counselling, connecting them with community resources and helping to address any barriers to care.
Frequently asked questions
-
I am a patient of a family health clinic. How do I book, reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Call your family health clinic to book, reschedule or cancel any appointments. As appointments are in high demand, 24-hour cancellation notice is required. Find details and contact information for your local clinic:
-
Are there costs for notes or forms or other services?
- Notes or forms: Notes and medical forms are not covered by your MSP. When you book your appointment, let the team know if you have a form that needs to be completed. We charge a reasonable fee for forms. The form fee will depend on the complexity of the form.
- Sick notes: Please note, B.C.’s doctors and nurse practitioners are asking employers to not require sick notes. Sick notes place an unnecessary burden on the health-care system, at a time when our priority is to use existing resources to help patients in need. If your employer requires a sick note, BC Family Doctors have developed a sick note that you can download and take to your employer. Download the BC Family Doctors sick note
- Other costs: Costs may vary depending on the service. Please contact the clinic for detailed information.
-
How do I check my test results?
You will be contacted about test results that need to be discussed. Normal results can be discussed at a subsequent appointment. If you are concerned about a test result, you are welcome to call the office to check if your result has arrived and book an appointment for follow-up.
- Bloodwork results are available in 1 to 4 days
- X-ray and ultrasound results are usually available in 3 to 5 days
- CT and MRI scan results are available in 5 to 7 days
- Pregnancy screening results can take 2 to 3 weeks
- Pap test results can take up to 6 weeks.
You can access some results online through My Care Compass for laboratory results and Health Gateway for a range of information.
-
Does the clinic offer prenatal care?
We provide prenatal care up to the third trimester. Since we do not perform deliveries, we then transfer your care to the health care provider of your choice: obstetrician, family physician or midwife. If you are newly pregnant, please call our office to arrange a visit within one to two weeks as there are early screening tests that are available and need to be booked early (including dating ultrasound and bloodwork).
-
I don’t have a family doctor or nurse practitioner. How do I find one?
If you do not have a primary care provider, register with Health Connect Registry. When a provider in your area becomes available, the team in your community will contact you to get matched.
