Returning to your home health authority after a stroke

The Vancouver Stroke Program (VSP) based out of Vancouver General Hospital serves the Lower Mainland area and provides expert advice for physicians across the province. Once the specialized medical care provided by the VSP is completed, patients are safely transferred back to their home health authority.
About health authorities
British Columbia has 5 regional health authorities that deliver health services to meet the needs of the population within their respective geographic regions.
Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is the provincial referral centre for stroke and the primary care center for Vancouver stroke patients. The Vancouver Stroke Program is the only stroke program in British Columbia with specially trained stroke neurologists who are on call 24/7. They lend their expertise to health care centres across all of British Columbia.

Returning to your home health authority
Patients may be transferred to VGH from another health authority for stroke specific treatments. Once the medical team has decided that the VGH specific medical tests and treatments are completed and your care can be safely managed in your home hospital, you will be transferred back.
Please note rehabilitation services are provided within each patient’s home health authority. Patients are unable to receive rehabilitation outside their own health authority.
