The following information provides a snapshot of some of the key health services available within or near your community. Depending on your health needs, you will have access to a broader continuum of specialty resources and health-care professionals located throughout VCH.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is responsible for providing health-care services to the people and communities we serve, which include Vancouver, Richmond, the North Shore, Sea to Sky, Sunshine Coast, Powell River, Bella Bella, and Bella Coola. VCH cares for patients referred from other health authorities, provides 46 per cent of all inpatient specialized care for the entire province, and works in partnership with Providence Health Care to deliver care in Vancouver.

    • Squamish General Hospital

      Squamish General Hospital provides general medicine and surgery, obstetrics, palliative care, physiotherapy, pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, ambulatory care, chemotherapy and emergency services.

    • Whistler Health Care Centre

      Whistler Health Care Centre is an urgent care facility with outpatient services including diagnostic imaging, laboratory and emergency, urgent and ambulatory care. The Health Care Centre is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. with on call nursing and physician support from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. for after-hours emergencies.

    • Pemberton Health Centre

      Pemberton Health Centre provides outpatient services, including diagnostic imaging, laboratory and emergency, urgent and ambulatory care. The emergency department is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., with on call nursing and physician support for after-hours emergencies.

    • Lions Gate Hospital

      Lions Gate Hospital is a 247-bed hospital serving the North Shore and providing specialty services to Sea to Sky, Sunshine Coast, Powell River, Bella Coola and Bella Bella. It is a recognized trauma centre and one of five neurosurgery centres in B.C. There is an active elective orthopedic and orthopedic trauma service receives referrals from the areas listed above. The hospital provides full maternity and pediatric services; eight surgical operating rooms in addition to four unique procedure rooms for local, cataract and basic fluoroscopy supporting procedures. This specialized acute-care centre also has a variety of diagnostic services including one of the most clinically advanced MRI scanners in Canada.

    • Emergency Department Wait Times

      Provides emergency department wait times for the Vancouver, Richmond and North Shore emergency departments, as well as the Urgent and Primary Care Centres. Please call 911 or go directly to your nearest emergency department if you are in need of serious medical attention including experiencing chest pain, severe bleeding or stroke symptoms.

    • Indigenous Patient Navigators

      Lions Gate Hospital has Indigenous Patient Navigators that provide direct patient and family support, including access to Elders, traditional ceremonies, and traditional healing practices, as well as support and education to health-care team members caring for Indigenous patients.

    • North Vancouver Urgent & Primary Care Centre (UPCC)

      For clients with same-day, non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses who are unable to see a family doctor or health-care provider. A UPCC is not intended to replace family doctors as a first point of contact for health concerns, nor will it replace Emergency Departments for life-threatening illnesses or injuries.

    • Stepping Stones Substance Use Services

      Assessment and treatment of clients on the North Shore with a substance use disorder that may also be experiencing mental health illness (19+ years). To access services, you can provide a self-referral or get referred by your primary care provider. Call 604-982-5616 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.

    • Magnolia House

      Magnolia House is a community-based mental health facility on the North Shore that provides short-term psychiatric emergency and crisis intervention.

    • Older Adult Mental Health Program

      The Older Adult Mental Health Program offers specialized services for adults 65 years and older with mental illness, substance use, dementia, behaviour issues related to dementia, and physical and functional decline. Specialists require referral from a primary care provider. Contact us if you need assistance to find a provider.

    • Youth Urgent Response Team (YURT)

      The YURT provides urgent and short-term services to youth ages 12-19 in North or West Vancouver who are experiencing thoughts, feelings or behaviors and/or substance use which is seriously interfering with their daily functioning. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

    • Mental Health Inpatient Services at the HOpe Centre

      The HOpe Centre Mental Health Inpatient Unit provides acute inpatient assessment and treatment services. Services are multi-disciplinary with the goal of stabilizing the acute illness and linking the patient to community mental health and substance use services for follow up and continued treatment and recovery.
