Construction starts on interim Psychiatric Assessment Unit at Richmond Hospital

​Paving the way for enhanced mental health care, the team kicks off construction on another major component of Phase One on the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project. As of October 3, 2023, construction started on the interim Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU), formerly known as the Psychiatric Emergency Unit (PEU). The PAU's relocation to a purpose-built space outside of the South Tower is a critical step towards improving patient care.

Embracing the vision: meet the dedicated staff bringing life to the new Paul Myers Tower

​Lions Gate Hospital is building a new six-floor acute tower projected to open to patients in early 2025. The Paul Myers Tower, named after Paul Myers, a North Shore businessman and philanthropist is supporting the hospital expansion through a donation. To learn more about this exciting project, we spoke with Dr. Victor Chow, Surgeon, Urology who began his medical career as an intern at Lions Gate Hospital 30 years ago.

Supporting health care and the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project

​​​Kami Randhawa is a Senior Project Manager at the Richmond Community of Care Project Management Office. This year, she supported relocating teams from Richmond Hospital to the community, freeing up essential clinical space for the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project. A helper by nature, Kami takes pride in her contribution to VCH’s largest capital redevelopment project. This is her story.​

Programs from the Rotunda have moved into 5 North at Richmond Hospital

​Richmond Hospital will be adding a new nine-floor acute care tower, the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, which includes a bigger emergency department, more operating rooms, an intensive care unit; a fully equipped medical imaging department; a pharmacy; and short-stay pediatrics. This will give Richmond, with its growing and aging population, the acute care it needs moving into the future.

What goes up, must come down: crane demobilization at Paul Myers Tower

After towering over the construction site of the future Paul Myers Tower at Lions Gate Hospital, the crane finally came down marking a significant milestone for the project after months of significant progress.
