Rehabilitation Post Stroke

Our allied healthcare team works closely with each patient to assess their rehabilitation needs and determine the most suitable options. If the team believes rehabilitation could be an option then we can ask a rehabilitation doctor (physiatrist) to assess. The physiatrist conducts a thorough evaluation to help guide the next steps in the recovery journey. If a patient meets the admission criteria for inpatient or outpatient rehabilitation, their treatment will take place within their own health authority.

Patients who reside in Vancouver Coastal Health rural and remote communities

For patients who reside in the Vancouver Coastal Health rural and remote communities such as Sunshine Coast, Powell River and the Sea-to-Sky corridor, an integrated virtual and in-person rehabilitation service is available called TIDES.

Patients who reside in the Northern Health authority

For patients who reside in the Northern Health authority, the major stroke rehabilitation center is at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia in Prince George. 

Patients who reside in the Island Health authority

For patients who reside in the Island Health authority, there are inpatient stroke rehabilitation centers at both Nanaimo General Hospital and Victoria General Hospital.
