Room and building
Most rooms have shared accommodation. There are a small number of private rooms on each floor. These can be used by couples, and residents wishing more privacy, but also for residents with special needs. The fourth floor has a special focus on dementia care.
Nutritious meals including therapeutic diets are individualized to the extent possible to suit individual special needs and preferences.
Purdy Pavilion has a library, chapel, outdoor garden and patio. Residents and families are encouraged to participate in the growth of Purdy through participation in the Residents’ Council, and the committees active in the home.
Language, culture, religious affiliations
Language spoken is predominantly English, with interpreter services available. Purdy Pavilion welcomes all linguistic, cultural and religious affiliations.
Special recreation opportunities
Under the auspices of the occupational therapy department, a full range of activities, including music therapy, are provided for residents seven days a week. These take place in all areas of the building and surrounding garden. Group activities range from sports, word games, Breakfast Club, variety shows, movies, bingo, baking, music, and special events. Care home bus use for lunch outings and scenic drive.
The physiotherapy department offers a resident walking program, range of motion exercises and some one to one activities.
Accessibility
Care home and rooms are all wheelchair accessible. Purdy accommodates power chairs and residents requiring oxygen therapy.
Safety and security features
Elevators service Purdy Pavilion. Alert bracelets are provided for residents who may wander. These will demobilise the elevator. However, while stairs are “alarmed”, they are not locked. Sprinklers are in place throughout common areas as well as in resident rooms. The premises are patrolled by security 24 hours a day.
