​Throughout 2024, the Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project has reached several key milestones, underscoring our commitment to enhancing patient care and supporting the Richmond Community of Care.

Interim Psychiatric Assessment Unit construction

Construction of the interim Psychiatric Assessment Unit (PAU) began in October 2023 and is progressing smoothly, expected to be completed in early 2025.​

Demolition of the Rotunda

In September 2024, the Rotunda, a longstanding structure, was demolished to make way for the new Yurkovich Family Pavilion, marking a pivotal step in Phase One of the project.​

Shortlisting for the Yurkovich Family Pavilion

In August 2024, design and construction candidates were shortlisted for the competitive RFP process for the new acute care tower, advancing the project towards Phase Two.​

August 2024 saw the unveiling of a new art piece by Musqueam artist Darryl Blyth in the Cancer Care Clinic, enriching the healing environment for patients and visitors.​

In June 2024, Richmond Hospital issued a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to begin construction of the Yurkovich Family Pavilion, setting the stage for the next phase of redevelopment.​

Opening of UBC Faculty of Medicine Medical Education Centre

May 2024 marked the completion and opening of the new UBC Faculty of Medicine Medical Education Centre, a hub for training future healthcare professionals.​

Looking ahead

The Richmond Hospital Redevelopment Project remains on track to provide the community with the acute care it needs into the future.

Phase One (2021-2025): Decanting and demolition.

Phase Two (2026-2029): Construction of Yurkovich Family Pavilion.

Phases Three and Four (Up to 2033): Renovations and further demolitions.
