VIDEO: Watch the Rotunda demolition at Richmond Hospital
On September 9, 2024, the Richmond Hospital campus saw the end of an era as the Rotunda was demolished to make way for the highly anticipated Yurkovich Family Pavilion. A pivotal moment in the hospital's redevelopment journey, this video captures the final moments of the Rotunda, including a walkthrough of the building just before it was brought down.
Originally built as a long-term care home, the Rotunda served the community for decades before transitioning into a general health services facility in 1993. It remained a hub for essential health services, supporting various teams and programs over the years. Now, its legacy continues as the site transforms to accommodate Richmond Hospital's new nine-floor acute care tower.

The Yurkovich Family Pavilion will house an expanded emergency department, a short-stay pediatrics unit, additional operating rooms, an intensive care unit, a fully equipped medical imaging department, and more.
As Richmond Hospital looks to the future, the demolition of the Rotunda is more than just the removal of a building—it represents progress and the promise of enhanced healthcare for the community.
