  • Splinting

    Learning Objectives: Learn how to splint the most common upper extremity injuries, the "Do's and Don'ts" of fiberglass splinting. This workshop will cover: Volar and Dorsal splints; Thumb Spica; Ulnar Gutter; Radial Gutter; Sugar Tong/Coaptation Splint; and Posterior Long Arm Splint.

  • Wound care

    Learning Objectives: Demonstrate the ability to assess different types of wounds and select appropriate wound care techniques and materials. Apply evidence-based wound management practices to improve healing and minimize complications in an urgent care setting.

  • Suturing

    Learning Objectives: Demonstrate proper techniques for suturing various types of wounds, including simple interrupted and mattress sutures, in an urgent care setting. Recognize complications associated with wound closure and integrate best practices for wound management and infection prevention

  • Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS)

    Learning Objectives: Demonstrate the ability to perform focused bedside ultrasound for the following urgent care conditions: Cellulitis/abscess/Skin lumps; DVT; Gallstones/Cholecystitis; Hydronephrosis. Apply point-of-care ultrasound findings to guide clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes in a family medicine setting.

    NOTE: This is a 3-hour hands-on Point of Care Ultrasound workshop taught by team of experienced instructors. There will be one instructor per two participants. You will be practicing each of those scans on live models. Please expect 2-3 hours of pre-workshop material to be studied online at https://cpocus.ca/. In addition to the hands-on Point of Care Ultrasound workshop fee, there is a $25 material cost for the pre-workshop reading material. This cost is payable at https://cpocus.ca and includes one-year access to cpocus.ca materials.  The instructor will send participants the details of the recommended reading ahead of the workshop day.

    Learning Objectives: Demonstrate a systematic approach to triage and assessment of hearing loss and vertigo in an urgent care setting. Identify urgent ENT conditions that require referral and management within primary care.

  • Interview and Q+A with a cardiologist

    Learning objectives: Recognize and interpret subtle ECG abnormalities commonly encountered in urgent care. e.g. Bradyarrhythmia, non-specific ST changes. Integrate ECG findings with clinical presentation to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient management.

  • Trauma-informed conversations in urgent care

    Learning objectives: Demonstrate effective communication strategies for conducting trauma-informed conversations with patients in urgent care. Apply trauma-informed care principles to enhance patient trust and engagement in the clinical setting.

    Learning Objectives: Demonstrate knowledge of the latest guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in an urgent care setting. Apply patient-centered approaches to STI management, including confidentiality and follow-up care.

    Learning Objectives: Recognize common pediatric orthopedic injuries and their management in the urgent care setting. Apply pediatric-specific principles for assessing and treating fractures and soft tissue injuries.

    Learning objectives: Recognize common skin cancers that may present to a UPPC. Understand the ideal primary care management and referral pathway for these conditions.

    Learning objectives: Interpret common urgent care X-rays to identify fractures, dislocations, and other abnormalities. Apply radiographic findings to guide management and referrals in urgent care.

    Learning objectives: Recognize and manage common sports-related injuries, including sprains, strains, and fractures, in an urgent care setting. Apply rehabilitation principles and injury prevention strategies in patient education for athletes and active patients.
