Vancouver Coastal Health is providing the following information about COVID-19 outbreaks in our region:
Acute Care:
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has declared the COVID-19 outbreak at Lions Gate Hospital (LGH) 4th floor over. There is no longer an outbreak at this site and the unit is now open to admissions and transfers.
A total of 36 people, including five staff, tested positive for COVID-19 during the outbreak and seven individuals, all patients, have passed away.
We share our heartfelt condolences with the families, friends and loved ones impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak at LGH.
All acute care facilities including LGH are restricted to essential visits, which includes visitors providing compassionate care, physical care and mental well-being. We will continue to take every precaution to protect our staff and patients.
Long-term Care:
A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the third floor of Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport after two patients and two staff tested positive for COVID-19.
The home is closed to new admissions and transfers at this time and all group activities have been suspended. Visits to the third floor of Richmond Lions Manor-Bridgeport have been suspended until the outbreak measures have been lifted; the exception being for essential care or compassionate visits at the end of life.
VCH immediately implemented strict infection prevention and control protocols to prevent further transmission of COVID-19. These include:
- Careful monitoring of patients, staff and physicians
- Enhanced cleaning and disinfection of all high-touch surfaces
- Closing the home to resident admissions and transfers
- Cohorting of staff to the affected areas
- Self-monitoring or self-isolation of staff and physicians as part of Public Health contact tracing
Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is responsible for the delivery of $4.1 billion in community, hospital and long-term care to more than one million people in communities including Richmond, Vancouver, the North Shore, Sunshine Coast, Sea to Sky corridor, Powell River, Bella Bella and Bella Coola. VCH also provides specialized care and services for people throughout B.C., and is the province's hub of health-care education and research.
